Tablets are flexible in all ways. Its screen can be rotated 4 ways. Even its home screen also rotates. Phones and phablets, especially Nexus phones are not built that way. They are not rotating all the way. Specifically, their home screen is fixed in respect of orientation. The app drawer or any other app interface can be rotated if the auto rotate option is on. But not the home screen. It will always remain the same. But since the launch of last update of Google now launcher, this scenario has changed.
Now there is an option available in the launcher settings area. It is actually a toggle switch. By default, it is off. So that, the home screen will not rotate and stay the way it usually does. But if you turn it on, your home screen will rotate according to your phone’s orientation. Go through the following steps to turn it on/off.
Steps:
- Install the latest version of google now launcher from the GooglePlay if you do not have it installed and make it your default launcher. Or you can download it from here.
- Now go to your home screen and tap and hold to a blank spot. It will pan out and you will see the settings icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap on the Settings icon.
- Find the option that says Allow rotation. It will be at the bottom of the menu.
- Turn it on.
Now go to your home screen again and tilt your device. Hopefully you will find your home screen rotated. If it’s still not working, your device might need a restart. Hopefully that will solve your rotation problem. Even after the restart your home screen still not rotating, then unfortunately, your device does not support material design from Google.
