Step-by-Step Guide: How to Enable and Use the Windows 11 Sandbox for Safe Testing

Windows 11 comes with a range of useful features and tools, and one of the handiest is the Sandbox. This feature allows you to create a virtual environment within your PC, where you can test new software, browse potentially dangerous websites, and perform other tasks without risking your main system. In this article, we'll walk you through the steps to activate or enable and use the Windows 11 Sandbox.

Step 1: Check Your System Requirements

Before you can use the Sandbox feature, you need to make sure your system meets the minimum requirements. Windows 11 Sandbox requires a 64-bit processor with at least 2 cores, 4GB of RAM, and 1GB of free disk space. If your system meets these requirements, you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Enable Virtualization in BIOS

Virtualization is required to enable the Sandbox feature in Windows 11. To enable virtualization in your BIOS, restart your computer and press the key that appears on the screen to enter the BIOS setup. The key may vary depending on your computer's manufacturer, but it's usually F2 or Del.

Once you're in the BIOS setup, look for a setting called Virtualization or VT-x. Enable this setting and save the changes before exiting the BIOS.

Step 3: Enable Sandbox Feature in Windows 11

To enable the Sandbox feature in Windows 11, follow these steps:

  • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type "optionalfeatures" and press Enter.
  • In the Windows Features window, scroll down and locate the "Windows Sandbox" option.
  • Check the box next to Windows Sandbox to enable it.
  • Click OK and wait for Windows to install the feature.
  • Restart your computer when prompted.

Step 4: Use Windows 11 Sandbox

Once you've enabled the Sandbox feature, you can start using it. Here's how:

  • Press the Windows key and type "Windows Sandbox" in the search bar.
  • Click on the Windows Sandbox app to launch it.

Once the Sandbox environment has loaded, you can install software, browse the web, or perform other tasks as you would on your main system.

When you're finished, simply close the Sandbox window and any changes you made within the environment will be discarded.

Finally, the Windows 11 Sandbox is a powerful tool that can help you test software and perform other tasks safely and securely. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can easily enable and use this feature on your Windows 11 computer.
